Update released for all HL2 based games

Posted by Administrator | 08 June 2005 - 14:21 | 0 Comments

VALVE has released a critical update for the original Half-Life based games. This includes Counter-Strike 1.6 and Condition Zero. Most important are the changes made to the "Query Protocol". This was needed to prepare all Half-Life based games for the arrival of VAC2, which will replace the current anti-cheat detection in the near future.

The old "Server Query Protocol" will remain operational until the next update. Popular tools as Half-Life Server Manager (HLSW) still use the old protocol to query the Half-Life based game servers. Unfortunately there is a bug in the last version of HLSW (v1.0.0.42 beta) which displays all Half-Life based game servers as being offline. However, RCON functionality is still available. The makers of HLSW are working on a new version to fix this issue. As is stands we have heard of the following bugs with this new releases.
  • On some servers there seems to be an issues with Meta Mod. Mods like AMX Mod X use the functionality of Meta Mod causing mods like AMX Mod X to not operate properly. VALVE says that functionality of Meta Mod should not be affected although they did not test it.
  • Game servers appear to be offline in HLSW, the developers of HLSW are aware of this problem.
  • And finally; thank you VALVE for this one. The 64-bit server doesn't have support for the new VAC system at this time. Because Clanhost uses 64-bit dual AMD Opteron servers we are very unhappy to hear this. We can switch the server manually into 32-bit mode.
Again VALVE is lacking in supporting the 64-bit version of their dedicated servers. It would be nice if they complete their changes for all platforms and then release it. To quote:
"The 64-bit server doesn't have support for the new VAC system at this time. We plan on doing a port but I have no hard timeline for it. I would suggest using the 32-bit version for now, or continuing on with the current VAC1 system."
Be sure to keep looking on our website for updates regarding this latest update.
