Clanhost prepares for arrival of Battlefield 2

The long anticipated games Battlefield 2 and Medal of Honor European Assault are available for pre-ordering in Belgium and The Netherlands on the 24th of May. Many gamers have been waiting for the releases of these games. Clans that would like to rent their Battlefield 2 servers at Clanhost can do so as soon as the game is released.
A interview held by The International Game Server Operators Association with one the producers of Battlefield 2 gave us some interesting information. The dedicated server will be available to the public short before the release of the game. We are very thrilled to hear that there will be a 64-bit version of the Linux dedicated server, to quote: “Yes, the Linux server will be available at launch. We are also working on a 64-bit version of the Linux server, with significant performance increases”. Fortunately Clanhost is the proud owner of very powerful 64-bit dual AMD Opteron servers, and we can’t wait to see the performance boost. The investments made by us a finally beginning to see it’s potential. VALVE – the maker of the popular Counter-Strike games – already have 64-bit version available of their dedicated game server. And with the latest Gentoo operating system we see a less CPU usage with the 64-bit versions and a increase in performance.
Unfortunately we cannot give any information regarding the pricing of our Battlefield 2 gameservers. Before we can determine the price we need to test the game to see how much load and traffic it will generate. Although the traffic generated by Battlefield 2 will remain the same the hardware requirement for the server are higher. This of course means less servers on one box which will result is slightly higher price. Together with one of our first customers – also top Battlefield Vietnam clan (LRRP) – we will be testing the new dedicated servers. We have both a Linux and Windows server ready to go. Depending on the results we will decide which platform will be most suitable for hosting Battlefield 2 game servers. A remote management tool will be available with the dedicated servers, information regarding the functionality of this tool is not yet available.
