A while ago we mentioned that our network provider ProServe was installing and configuring new equipment for their network. This week we have received more information regarding the progress of their work. This Monday the connection of Clanhost to ProServe will be transferred to one of the new Juniper M10i routers.
ProServe is replacing all of their core routers and core switches in the Netherlands in the next couple of weeks. This Monday the core routers in Redbus are going in production, and Clanhost will be the first customer of ProServe to undergo the switch. The past few weeks ProServe has been working very hard to replace the hart of their network, all but a few transit connections have been connected to the new Juniper M10i routers. The next step is to connect the customers of ProServe to the new equipment. When this is completed the old equipment will no longer be used.

Currently the new and old core routers are used to route all the traffic. To keep the downtime of the customers of ProServe to a minimum, the transition must be completed in steps. To make sure the customers of Clanhost won't notice anything ProServe is going to switch our connection to the new routers on Monday between 7 and 9 a.m. The expected downtime is only a few seconds. With the new network infrastructure ProServe will significantly improve reliability and uptime. Until the failure of one of their core switches on the 27th of April they had a network uptime of 100% in the last three years. To make sure the connection of Clanhost stays online even if a core switch fails ProServe is offering a redundant uplink to all of their customers. This means that if one of the core switches goes down the other automatically takes over.
